Global trendsetters of the modern world do not just belong on the runway, they’re also performing in front of large stadium crowds! K-pop celebrities are increasingly influencing the fashion and beauty world and in 2023, multiple artists took over our explore pages with impeccable on-stage styling that left many wondering, “what kind of setting spray is she using?” 2023 was also the year of many comebacks, and the music videos that followed were a vision in makeup artistry like no other. Here are our favourite makeup moments that made their way into our saved posts in no time!
1.Rose’s bedazzled lids
Embellishments are big in K-pop; from diamanté to jewels and dainty chain links, these knick-knacks are added to makeup to grab attention on stage. Which is why when Blackpink’s Rosé, who usually keeps her stage glam matte and minimal, stepped out with purple-lined lids and embellishments on the lids – it made waves. That’s all you need to do to recreate this look as well – keep the base matte and add shimmer to the eyes.

2.Somi’s white bow
Artsy, white designs in makeup have been making the rounds of Insta for a while, and with Somi’s stamp of approval, it’s gotten a whole lot cooler. Invest in a pigment white eyeliner or liquid liner and put your art skills to the test to recreate the look. You can make this look more wearable by drawing floral designs or keeping it abstract as well.
3.Taeyeon’s bruised peach look
The woman who started it all, Taeyeon has been known to push the boundaries of Korean culture with her work. Which is why this edgy, peachy and wet illusion look from her came as no surprise. How can you get this out of the screen and on your face? Stock up on lots and lots of highlighters – gel, powder and stick – and mix and match on various high points of the face to look like you’ve just got back from a swim!
4.I.M’s shimmer dream
Monsta X’s comeback mini album prism has a lot of bangers in it, all as equally captivating as their looks for the official MV concept. Matte skin, mauve eyes and mermaid lids left K-pop stans gasping for air. It’s an effortless recreation as well – all you need to do is fill your lids with a pigmented, creamy eyeshadow stick and swipe on powdered shimmer to complete the look.
5.Karina’s garden girl glam
In another world, Aespa’s Karina is smoking out her eyelids to create her signature makeup look. But for their ‘Better Things’ MV, the rocker chick transformed into a garden fairy who hides out in your tulips. To recreate this, head down to your local crafts store to collect flower stickies for your eyebrows. Create a multi-dimensional cat-eye with a lower lid filled in with a bronze shimmer shade to add depth to your look.
6.THE Queencard moment
(G)I-dle gave us the bop of the summer, Queencard, and to go along with it – a music video that can fill your Pinterest boards for a whole year. Dainty details painted on, aesthetically placed rhinestones, overlines, glazed bubblegum pink lips and clumped-but-in-a-cool-way lashes are just a couple of details you can get inspired by from this look!
