The internet has a knack for making everyday activities go viral on Instagram and Tiktok. Its latest sensation is the 'everything shower' trend. This is a step up from our beloved #selfcaresundays, emphasizing total pampering. Essentially, the 'everything shower' is an all-in-one treat for your skin, hair, and body.
Imagine the 'everything shower' as a home-based full-body spa, a concept many have embraced during the pandemic. Like any spa day, it's not just about looking good, but also feeling mentally refreshed. However, a heads up: this isn't a quick rinse. It requires more time than your typical shower. But remember, the goal is relaxation, so if any step feels too long or unnecessary, skip it! Ready to get started? Here's your detailed guide to mastering the 'everything shower' trend.
Pre-Shower Routine
Step 1: Set the mood
Vibe check? It’s important! Setting the mood with scented candles or aromatherapy diffusers and a dimly lit bathroom will help you leave your stress at the door. Some light, relaxing music in the background is the perfect way to begin.

Step 2: Apply a hair mask
Apply a pre-conditioning hair mask or oil to condition your hair. Massage it gently for 2 to 3 minutes and leave it on for about 20 minutes while you go about your pre-shower tasks. To prevent any drips, either tie your hair in a bun or cover it with a shower cap.

Step 3: Cleanse first
Use a cleansing balm or oil to help remove dirt, makeup and sunscreen. Massage it in for a minute and rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Step 4: Dry brush
Gently massage your body with a dry brush, focusing on your legs, arms, and stomach. This helps boost circulation and exfoliates the skin, prepping it for your shower.

Shower Routine
Step 1: Focus on your hair
In the shower? Begin the routine by rinsing off the hair mask or oil with a clarifying shampoo. You can go the extra mile and use a scalp scrub pre-shampoo to help eliminate any sort of dryness or dandruff on your scalp. Lather, rinse, repeat, at least twice to ensure that the excess grease from your pre-shower products has been rinsed off. Apply a deep-conditioning conditioner or mask to your hair, and use your fingers or a wide-toothed comb to detangle and ensure even application, before rinsing it off.

Step 2: Onto your Body
Once you’ve rinsed off your hair, it’s time to cleanse your body. Other than using your regular body cleanser, you can also apply a body scrub by gently massaging the product into the skin in circular motions. If you’ve already dry brushed your body and feel like the skin’s a little sensitive, feel free to skip the scrub. Alternatively you can use a body mask to help moisturise the skin even further. This is the perfect time to shave your body, if you’d like.

Step 3: Finally, your face
Leaving the best for last, cleanse your skin with your regular cleanser. This is the second step to your double cleansing routine that will help remove traces of makeup and dirt, ensuring you have a clean canvas to apply the rest of your skincare products. Apply a detoxifying face mask—let it marinate on your skin, while you dry the rest of your body and hair.
Important note: While you can multi-task to save time, we recommend washing your hair off any hair care products before cleansing your body and face, as traces of the formulation can trickle down to your skin and clog pores. Cleansing your skin after washing your hair ensures that those traces are removed entirely.
Post-Shower Routine
Step 1: Apply a body lotion or oil
Stepped out of your shower? While your skin is slightly damp, apply some body lotion, moisturiser, or oil to it. Massage it gently into your skin, until it absorbs completely. Repeat for areas that are dry and dehydrated. Here’s when you can slip into your robe or pajamas too!
Try: L'Occitane Verbena Body Lotion
Step 2: Add in a hair serum
Apply a few drops of hair serum or leave-in-conditioner to ensure that your hair is hydrated and protected. A lot of hair serums provide heat protection too, which means if you plan to heat style or blow dry your hair, you won’t be damaging it.

Step 3: Treat your skin
Your face mask must be dry by now, right? Gently rinse it off and pat your skin slightly dry. Apply your face serum that will help treat your specific concerns. We recommend applying a hydrating serum that will help moisturise the skin and strengthen its barrier too. Next, apply your moisturiser—when doing so, make sure to give your face a little massage, either using a gua sha, face roller, or even your fingers. If you want that extra slip, feel free to throw in a little face oil to amp up your routine.
