Traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies, matcha is a finely ground powder made from the leaves of the tea plant Camellia sinensis. What makes it unique is that it is grown under shade, pushing the leaves to produce more chlorophyll. That’s where the vivid green hue and earthy flavour come from. Now that distinctive shade and rustic smell has travelled beyond the teacup, ending up in iced lattes, boba teas, and even skincare and bodycare.
