The monsoons are for the romantics who like to spend hours daydreaming about faraway lands while it’s pouring outside. And the best way of romanticising Indian monsoons that wreak havoc on your daily commute and travel plans? Get glammed up to beat the rainy-day blues, of course!
This year, makeup trends have followed no rhyme or reason while getting ready for the rainy season. We’ve got warm skin tones paired and summery colours trending right now. But hey, who are we to question what our favourite celebrity and beauty creators have given their stamp of approval to? Below, we’re detailing the prettiest monsoon makeup trends you can try to up your glam game this season.
1. Cloud skin
Starting with the obvious, cloud skin will put all your mattifying base products to work this season. Blurred, dreamy, matte with a hint of a powdery finish, cloud skin prep will allow your base to stay in place come rain (or shine, if any at all). The trick is to layer waterproof foundation and concealer over a pore-minimising, mattifying primer to get that alabaster finish to the skin.

2. Mauve monotone
Purples have become super popular with deeper skin tones this past year. It’s staying through the monsoons as well. But, this time, with the twist of tinting the entire face in a monotone hue to keep things subtle. For people with cooler undertones, lean towards a lavender for the colour to show up beautifully on your skin.

3. Latte makeup
Carrying over from the summer of 2023, latte makeup is slated to stay on a bit longer and possibly do an Autumn residency given the fall friendly shades. Focus the bronzer on the high points of your face to recreate a supermodel glow from within.

4. Chunky lip liners
Lip liners are having a major moment in 2023. Paired with clear or tinted glosses, chunky liners can help customise your lip shape to your desire. They’re generally matte with an intense colour pay-off and long-lasting effect – perfect for wet, humid days.
5. Rosebud lips
Taylor Swift has spent her Eras tour drenched in sweat on stage day in and day out, without an eyelash out of place. A standout detail from her beauty looks has been the bold, rosebud lip crooning her smash hits every night. Red is in this season, and this time around, it seems to be statement and full-bodied. Focus the pigment on the centre of the lips for a faux rosebud effect.
6. Icy metallics
It’s not about beating the monsoon blues but playing with the moody hues of the season. Recreate the heavenly showers with an icy metallic eyeshadow full of shimmer and glitter particles to amp up the drama.
7. Dreamy embellishments
Create a watery illusion with diamante and embellishments around the eyes or draped onto the temples. Make sure you are using makeup glue to safely fix these embellishments to your skin, and remember to be gentle while cleansing them off.
