If you've been on the lookout for a non-scary Halloween makeup look to wear at this year’s party, you’ve arrived at the right spot. Halloween makeup doesn’t just have to be about blood streaks and ashen-looking skin. Especially when you do not subscribe to the horror fan status. We’ve scoured artsy makeup pages to bring you some cool makeup designs to recreate – and the story you can make up around it.
1. I’m a sad girl, can you tell?
Sad girl makeup, cold girl makeup, frosted girl makeup.... looks like the go-to aesthetic for most novelty makeup looks these days has to do with melancholy and grief. And even if you do not have anything to be sad or cold or frosted about, the look remains an easy to recreate, wearable one. Add some colour to it with denim blue eyeshadow and use embellishments to create tear splatters on your face. If someone doesn’t get it, just say you’re an Aquarius and move on!
2.Artsy chic
If pastels, being artsy and statement eye looks are your thing, this look should satiate your creative drive for the day. A matte base and lip paired with powdery shades of violet, yellow, aqua and bubblegum pink on the lids exists in total harmony in this look. Throw in some soap brows in there and you’re ready to be the prettiest art student role-player at the party.
3.Rock n’ roll never dies
It’s okay if you're a hardcore Swiftie for the rest of year because Halloween calls for some rock n’ roll invasion of your music, and makeup, tastes. Start with a minimal base and turn things up with a Kiss-inspired starry eye look. Drape blush from the centre of your face to the temples and if you do not have bleached brows, create concealer-brows to get the same effect.
4.Medieval literature lover
We all know and love the sci-fi fanatics of our friend group. But what about the ones who’re into medieval literature and wished that they were actually born as an elf? Bring this majestic, mythical being to life with champagne eyes, fluttery lashes, sculpted features and blood-dripping, plump lips. You may have to make a run to the prop shop for the faux ears and you’re good to go!

5.Futuristic chic
90s nostalgia has taken over 2023, there's no doubt about that. Do a 180 and opt for the futuristic trend instead, recreating classic sci-fi interpretation of what makeup in the future “might” look like. It’s got a lot to do with silver shadows and pastel blue pigments intermingling with each other to create this artistic vision.
6.Barbie in the house
‘Barbenheimer’ may have been the cinematic event this year but Barbie-themed glam is still in vogue. For Halloween, make it a bit messier (see: dirtier) with an almost glitter “vomit” in the centre of the face. Glaze the brows with a chromatic finish and opt for coloured mascara, of course it has to be pink, to finish the look.
7.Line art or fine art?
If you are intrigued by tattoos, it’s time to put your brush skills to the test with this line art look. Channel your inner Anime villains, and if someone asks who you’re fighting next, just say “my nemesis hasn’t been born yet”. Break character only when you’re on your third drink!
