There are two kinds of beauty-obsessed girls—those with stunning natural eyebrows and the rest of us who work very hard to get there. Either way, the journey to on-point brows starts with general upkeep. Here are eight simple yet effective tips to help you achieve your best brows yet.
#1 - Let them grow out. Period.
When you’re growing out your eye brows, resist the urge to pluck away the strays. In fact, don’t touch them for about six months or so if you want them to grow out entirely and design the perfect eyebrow shape from then on. You can also start with a brow serum to boost growth. The wait is long, but it’s totally worth it.
#2 – Professionals only, please!
When it comes to eyebrow shaping, leave it to the professionals. Only an expert can assess and deliver the correct shape for your face. Avoid trying to get that perfectly arched eyebrows by yourselves.
#3 - Trim Occasionally
We all love natural brows. However, some strands can grow longer than others, making your brows look a little unruly. When you get to this stage, brush your brows upwards with a spoolie (eyebrow brush) and gently trim the hair sticking out using an eyebrow razor.
#4 - Don’t get tweezer-happy
Plucking your eyebrows is a slippery slope- knowing when to put the tweezer down is the key to avoiding the dreaded overplucked brows. If you must tweeze, brush your brows first to see the shape better. Pluck out the strays and leave the actual shaping to the pros. Trust us on this.
#5 - Pick the right shade of brow colour
When filling them in, pick an eyebrow pencil or gel in the shade closest to your natural brow colour. If you’ve got light brows, go for one shade darker than your natural hair. If you’ve got naturally dark brows, pick a shade lighter. Another important factor to consider is your complexion undertone. A cooler shade will complement people with cooler undertones, and a warmer-hued product will work better on those with a warmer complexion.
#6 - Layer properly
Who says you have to stick to just one brow product? The order goes pencil, pomade, powder, wax and then gel. You don’t have to layer them all together, but follow this order even if you just want to go with two. Feel free to pair a pencil with a pomade or a powder –– the key to solid brows is to create an almost realistic texture with your products.
#7 - Keep the brow area clean
Always wipe your brows whenever you’re done with your skincare. Avoid letting any lotions, gels or moisturisers sit on your eyebrows. The product can seep into your eyebrows, hinder growth, and cause your eyebrow hair to fall out.
#8 – Sisters, not twins
Remember, eyebrows are siblings, not identical twins. Both your eyebrows can never look the same, no matter how much you try. Your face isn’t symmetrical, and neither are your eyebrows –– as long as they’re groomed to the extent that you’re happy with, it’s perfectly okay to have both eyebrows shaped slightly differently.
