Through advertisements, films, books and everything pop culture, we’ve been told that the thicker the hair, the more royal the mane. But for most, voluminous hair requires a whole lot of work, especially if your battle is with fine strands. So we did the heavy lifting and found out all the ways you can give your hair a volume boost, without having to break into a sweat.

Invest in a volumising shampoo and conditioner duo
First things first: you need to have the right haircare products by your side. It’s important to use a volumising shampoo that makes your hair thicker and fuller over time. There are multiple products that are volumising and also lightweight in texture, which ensures that your hair is getting the nourishment it requires without weighing down.

Avoid conditioning your roots
Thin and fine hair often appears flat and that is why it’s important to not weigh it down. When conditioner is applied closer to the roots, the heavy texture and formula can cause your hair to look greasier than usual, appearing flat and limp. We recommend opting for a hydrating conditioner that helps nourish the lengths of your hair.

Style your hair upside down
Looking for a quick hack? Try blow drying your hair upside down. Flip your hair down and blast dry the roots, while using a brush or your fingers to lift the strands up. Remember to use the hair dryer on a low heat setting, as you wouldn’t want to burn your scalp. Finish off with a cool blast and a hair serum on the lengths of your hair to complete the look—and you’ve got a voluminous mane with minimal effort.

Tease your crown
Teasing your crown is one of the best ways to add volume to fine hair in an instant. Using a fine-toothed comb, simply backcomb your roots so that they appear lifted. Gently comb the front of the area to neaten it and finish off with a strong hold hairspray.

Heatless curls FTW
If you’re one to avoid heat, then we recommend opting for heatless curls. Now, there are multiple ways you can do this. You can either use ribbon wraps or rollers on your damp hair, or you can braid your hair into sections and leave it overnight. The hairstyle sets while you sleep, leaving you with voluminous curls the next day. Finish off with some hair spray for a stronger hold.

Use a dry shampoo
Greasy hair often leaves your mane looking flat, thin and lifeless. If you’re too lazy to deal with second- or third-day hair, invest in a good dry shampoo. All you have to do is spray the dry shampoo on your greasy roots, pat the product into your scalp and then use a brush to evenly distribute the dry shampoo while lifting the roots. This will help remove the excess oil, while giving your hair a fresh blow-dry appearance.
