For busy moms on the go, getting ready and looking put-together can often be the last thing on the mind. There is a lot to do between the time you wake up and finally put the kids to bed at night - school drop-offs, a full day of work, or picking up craft supplies will have you schlepping between locations all day long. This leaves little to no time for a quick makeup refresh.
We’ve put together some makeup tips that can help you achieve a polished look in a short amount of time and have it stay put till your little ones are asleep at the end of the day:
1. Prep well:
The key to long-lasting makeup that won’t budge is good prep. Complete your morning routine – don’t forget the SPF – and spread a clear, hydrating primer all over your skin before you begin your look.
Pro tip:
Spritz some primer water after your skincare to help your skin hold on to the primer and, consequently, the makeup a lot better.
2. Subtle does it best:
A simple makeup routine that can be done quickly and easily will keep you on track for the day. Easy hacks like using tinted moisturisers for minimal coverage and hydration, a dash of mascara, and lip balms with a pop of colour can sufficiently set you up for the day. The idea is to focus on a few key features, such as enhancing your skin, defining your eyebrows, and adding a touch of mascara or colour to your lips.
3. Rely on multitasking heroes:
Choose makeup products that can pull double duty. Lip & cheek tints are excellent swipe-and-go essentials. This also applies to innovative products like blush sticks, lash serums that can turn into brow polishers, and colour-correcting primers – all of them can save time and effort in the morning. They can also be quite an asset for a 5-minute makeup look and are comfortable in your everyday bag.
4. Keep an emergency stash handy:
Keep a concealer on hand for quick daily touch-ups. It can cover dark circles, blemishes, and other imperfections. You can extend this to a tinted moisturiser or BB cream. Carry these in a for-your-bag-only pouch with a small compact mirror and a makeup sponges for easy application on the go.
5. Your mascara and lip products may make it or break it:
Mascara can make a big difference in your look, even if you're not wearing any other makeup. Invest in a high-quality mascara that defines and lengthens your lashes quickly and easily. Similarly, opt for long-lasting lip products like lip stains or liquid lipsticks that won't smudge or wear off easily. These can provide colour and hydration without the need for touch-ups.
6. Set it up:
Even the best foundation in your vanity will need effective products to set in place. Opt for a hydrating setting spray instead of powder to avoid cracks in your makeup by mid-day.
7. Devise a routine:
Set a consistent makeup routine that works for you. By obeying a set order and succession of application, you'll become more proficient and cut down on decision-making time.
